AMAZON
The direct link for all books listed by Amazon for JW, which include the out of print titles and where to buy secondhand, can be viewed on the direct link. Or just go to books on Amazon, US or UK, and put in Jeremy Walton within the search field. HERE
A selective and heavily biased list of websites for those who have published Jeremy's motoring books follows:
HAYNES
Only Here for the Beer [1979 and 2005 editions] the cult biography of the late Gerry Marshall was successfully reissued with a new forward and pictures to pay tribute to Gerry after his 2005 death.
Ford Capri, Ford Escort and Audi Quattro appeared in a series subtitled The Development & Competition History.Only Here for the Beer is the only current title in print, although new copies of The Cosworth Fords, also published by Haynes in the 1990s may also be located.
Another Audi title: Audi Quattro in the Haynes Great Cars series was written in 2006 and covers just the original (Ur-quattro) of this modern 4x4 turbo legend. Like Esprit for Coterie it has the enormous advantage of perspective (Jeremy's original quattro titles were in 1984 in English and 1985 for Germany) and superb presentation. Haynes went to town on the studio photography and we had fabulous access to the Audi UK collection and that of David Sutton at Daventry, which the author would like to publicly acknowledge.
Slightly delayed into 2007 publication, the Audi book benefitted from fabulous reviews. Most were prompted by the BBC TV programme Ashes to Ashes, and Gene Hunt’s call to "fire up” a red quattro. That call echoed by David Cameron during 2010 electioneering, though the political connection with a German legend seemed obscure to us!
All these titles published by J.H. Haynes of Sparkford, Yeovil, Somerset, BA22 7JJ, UK [tel :01963 442030] also has a Los Angeles, CA base.
COTERIE PRESS
For 2011 publication, Coterie and Jeremy W expect to be reunited on a uniquely dynamic, American-based BMW book that reflects Coterie’s desire to expand beyond British niches. However, Walton has just finished reading their William Taylor-Peter Darley title 1965: Jim Clark & Team Lotus, The UK Races. Jeremy has no doubt Coterie remain supreme publishers for presentation and content in the specialist Formula car world, and hopes to reach the same standards in the BMW title, for which American support has been amazing.
Jeremy's Lotus titles for Coterie press [two editions of Elise and one of Esprit] are described in the books section. However it's worth giving the link here as well as Coterie is the publisher for Lotus, thanks to the knowledge of founder William Taylor, although Coterie do cover a lot more than Lotus from their US and UK bases now.
My work for Coterie was the summit of a near 40-year passion for Lotus products. The books reflect some amazing engineering feats on diminutive development budgets, told by the engineers from the Chapman era into the 21st century. Today Lotus are a lot more sophisticated, but the birth of Elise was as dramatic as any of their immortal Grand Prix champs.
BENTLEY PUBLISHERS
Jeremy's BMW books, at least those in print and easily available, were published by Bentley Publishers of 1734 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA02138-1804, USA.
BMW 3 and 6 Series titles remain readily available, but their 1998 prize-winning edition of Unbeatable BMW is now firmly out of print. You can still buy from specialists, but it was expensive by 2010.Sadly, there is no work in progress on an update/replacement, although this has been discussed for more than ten years.
Tip: don't leave purchase of an obsolete book you really want more a year, as the original Unbeatable and the quattro titles commanded stinging prices as out of print items. We know, we had to buy back those titles for digitalization, plus a copy of Only Here For the Beer. Prices went from £50 upward and most originally retailed at £15 or less!
MOTORBOOKS INTERNATIONAL
Mini Cooper & S,covering 998 Cooper:970,1071 & 1275S types is a born survivor that has covered at least four editions since it's original Osprey appearance in 1982.
Jeremy is particularly pleased that it continues to live a healthy publishing life in 2007. Now sold out of Motorbooks International, 792 Prospect Avenue,PO Box 1, Osceola, WI 54020-0001 USA.
MOTOR RACING PUBLICATIONS
at PO Box 1318,Croydon CR9 5YP, UK, supported me in my hours of need. Led by John Blunsden, they issued titles covering Capri, BMW 3 series, RS and XR Fords in the eighties and early nineties. Currently available ex-stock are two titles in the Collector's Guide smaller format series:-
BMW 3 series [Gen 1 and 2 plus M3 in E30 body. The BMW title is useful, but now only in softback. SPORTING FORDS Volume 5: Front drive Escorts (XR3 to Cosworth 4x4) remains a slow but consistent seller, despite the now increased interest in RS and Escort Cosworths after the purist rear drive generations.
If, like me, you like to browse and buy either secondhand or new personally, I reckon the best place to look for bookshops that go that extra shelf is around the book review pages of magazines such as Classic & Sportscar or Octane.
In the USA, the web is really the best first step to locate a retailer within easy driving range. My US favorites to visit are branches of Barnes & Noble with their huge stocks and relaxed reading environment at multiple branches.
MOTORSPORTS
AUTOSPORT FORUMS ONLINE A former Autosport subscriber (1968- 2006) I found their site clumsy to access even with supposed privileges. That led me onto CRASHNET which I reckon is much more comprehensive. Excellent for motorcycle racing and saloon cars, but is now defaced with heavy advertising and promotions. So I’ve turned old fart and use the BBC BBC MOTORSPORT ONLINE
I now take the seasonal GP WEEK regularly and rate it. I also regularly employ specialist sources that are not public for BMW, Audi, Lotus, and Ford, taking primarily sports and industry news.
GENERAL
AUTOWEEK, WINDING ROAD, and CAR ENTHUSIAST are my regular stops with Edmunds for detailed knowledge. AUTOCAR online is rather better than the current hard copy magazine (yes, I’m a sad subscriber). On the old car online scene, I take CLASSIC CARS FOR SALE and use it regularly with a hard copy subscription to Classic Cars [just cancelled], Classic Cars for Sale and whatever catches my browsing eye in the shops, from evo, Classic & Sportscar or Octane. Motorcycles (Motorcycle News) and aviation or country titles alleviate any overload from the working need for all kinds of car mags. .

AMERICAN BMW CAR CLUB This is the site for 70,000+ members of the American BMW Car Club which publishes the best club magazine I have ever seen, although Porsche Post is no sluggard either! Edited by Satch Carlson, Roundel is perfect bound and runs over 140 pages most months. Yes, I'm biased as I'm a regular columnist (The English Patient) and enjoy writing features for this discerning audience.
BMW CAR CLUB GB
The sight for the UK club, which I only joined a little over a year ago. Publishes an excellent glossy magazine these days with notification of lots of events all over UK.
