BMW 3 series: Enthusiasts Companion, was an obvious Robert Bentley USA step to take as the range starter to BMW new model motoring for almost 30 years: the 1 series just interrupted that starter status in 2004. It has sold in strong numbers as a softback, but suffered a complete mauling during the late stages of production as it was realized it was not going to meet its low target price. At this point all the beautiful colour pictures went out the window as well.
Rightly criticized for its lack of coherence in the abbreviated published format, it remains a good source of statistics and information not printed elsewhere, particularly for American owners/potential buyers. It would be nice to ‘sort the job out’ but unlikely to ever happen even though the latest [E90] 3 series is so good it deserves the tale of its prowess and that of its ancestors to be told logically.
